SUMMER INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH PODS (SIRIPODS)
I was part of the pilot program for SIRiPods at UCI, which paired students with faculty and other students in groups based on on research interest. There were three research groups, or pods, where my pod was concerned with sustainable energy and fuel. Professors introduced students to the overall field and presented their current research within the topic. Over the course of three weeks, three major deliverables were composed. A report about research careers, a research proposal, and a research presentation slide were created. The research proposal and research slide were related in presenting my research topic of interest, which was the evaluation of gas phase exhaust species for a natural gas and hydrogen blended fuel. Essentially, I proposed investigating the change in greenhouse gases emission by adding more hydrogen to natural gas fuel during combustion. Overall, this program was beneficial in showcasing the current breadth of climate-conscious research and teaching me about how to present a research question.
